The huge headquarters of the Fazenda do Secretario, located in the city of Vassouras in state of Rio De Janeiro, is the best example of coffee plantation farmhouse done in neoclassical style in Brazil. |
The Fazenda do Secretario once had 500 thousand coffee trees and 366 slaves. Part of the tulha, construction that kept the harvest, still remains. The farm had too 51 slave rooms, five infirmaries and ten houses for employees. In front of the house and besides the tulha, a french clock installed in a beautiful tower shows the hours. |
The Fazenda do Secretario is one of the most sumptuous headquarters of the Coffee Cycle in Brazil, offering to its visitors a look into the golden times of century XIX. The farm has been used as the set for some television productions, including the series "The Maias" and "O Quinto dos Infernos" and the soap opera "Pé na Jaca" by TV Globo. |
